The look of Crooke in 1978

In 1978, the Co-operative came into being to protect the village from demolition by the council. At that time a Len Hudson, a man connected to or offered to the Wigan Archives office, pictures he had taken of the village for posterity. My wife and I went along to the Archives office and copied those pictures to show you what the village buildings looked like then. Thank goodness they do not look anything like that now.

This last picture was taken just outside the village where there was a large pond between Crooke and The Royal Oak pub. These days, that area is more of a marsh than a pond.

Here are a few more old pictures and there may be someone here you might know? Take a look.
